Dale McConathy graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Agriculture, in 1943. That same year he joined the Army Air Forces Air Cadet Training Program. In 1944 he was Commissioned as a Radar-Bombardier. He was released from active duty in 1946. He next went to work for Swift and Company. He rose to the position of District Sales Manager. In 1951 Dale re-entered military service for the Korean War. He served at Randolph Field, Texas and was discharged in 1953.
Dale married Elaine Marion Cooney on June 1, 1946. They had two sons. Elaine and Dale were divorced. Dale remarried Marian Hughes in 1967. The couple were married about 10 years. Dale married a 3rd time to Sandra Spitler on July 2, 1986. His wife survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen R. McConathy and Mabel E. Thompson; as well as his brother, John Thompson McConathy; and brother-in-law, Harold Harvey.
