On June 24, 1928, he married Lillie Pearl Mitchell. To this union two children were born – Eureta Chester Minge and Norma Hufstedler.
After Pearl's death, he married Glenda Kathleen Sitzes on May 20, 1966.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army.
Survivors include two daughters Norma Hufstedler and husband, Robert, of Alton, MO; and Eureta Chester Minge and husband, Joe, of West Plains, MO; three grandchildren, Gary Chester of Thayer, MO; Rick Chester and wife, Lana, of Myrtle, MO; and Barry Hufstedler of St. Charles, MO; three great-grandchildren, Kristi Chester of Lead Hill, AR; Brian Chester and wife, Jessica; and Hollie Chester, all of West Plains; three great-great-grandchildren, Quaid Turner; Dusty and Gracie Chester of West Plains; a brother, Floyd Cantrell of O'Fallon, MO; and a sister, Neva Britton of Holiday.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Javan and Clara Sorrell Cantrell; two wives, Pearl Cantrell and Glenda Cantrell; three brothers, Noval, Virgil and Hubert Cantrell and a sister, Meda Sisk.
The funeral was March 25 with John McFarlen officiating; interment was in Myrtle Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Clary Funeral Home of Alton, MO.
Pallbearers were Robert and Barry Hufstedler, Rick and Brian Chester, Don Woods and Noel Johnson.
