Bernice Josephine Daigle Wood, lovingly referred to as "Mimi," "Aunt Feen," "Nanan." and "Ms. Jo," passed away from Alzheimer's at Brookdale Assisted Living in Lake Charles on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 9:4S a.m. with her daughter, Pat, by her side.

Josephine was born in Frey, LA, on February 6, 1917, to Aristilia Bertrand Daigle and Homer Daigle, the youngest of 8 children: Annalice, Agnes, Melanie, Ludie, Bernard, Will, and Willis, all of whom predeceased her. She was the widow of Howard C. Wood.

Survivors are her two daughters; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Coming from a large family with large families, Aunt Feen has a myriad of nieces and nephews, greats, and great-greats.

Our Mimi greatly enjoyed dancing and out-danced everyone else on the dance floor at reunions and other family events. She would dance with grandchildren in her kitchen when they visited. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was an avid reader of Catherine Cookson novels and biographies. She travelled overseas to Italy and Ireland, with tours, the only one from Louisiana on the tours. Always ready for a trip, she loved visiting the many states where her daughters lived over the years.

A faithful parishioner of St. Margaret's Parish of Lake Charles for over 7S years, Josephine attended daily Mass and distributed communion to shut-ins at their homes and at hospitals and nursing homes. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America. With an intense devotion to the Blessed Mother, she prayed her rosary daily and made many novenas at the request of family and friends. She also read her Bible every day until it was in tatters.

Josephine was the lunchroom manager for First Methodist Church pre-school, Lake Charles, for many, many years. She was a babysitter locally and in Florida for two years where she was in great demand. She also was a loving caregiver for the elderly.

Sixty famiiy members and friends gathered in February this year to help Mimi celebrate her 100'h birthday. When they sang Happy Birthday to her, it brought a tear to her eyes, her last means of communication.

Special thanks go to the families of Nelwin LaCasse Richard and Kirk Daigle and Tammy. They were immensely supportive in so many ways to daughter Pat during the last difficult years of Josephine's illness.

Visiting hours and services are being handled by Hixson Funeral Home, 3001 Ryan St, Lake Charles LA. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m with a Rosary at 6 p.m. Additional visiting time is on Monday, April 24, at 9 a.m. until Mass at St. Margaret's, Enterprise Blvd, Lake Charles LA, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
