Doug was a 2003 graduate of Manheim Township High School and a 2007 graduate from The School of Business at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Doug was a member of Sig Ep Fraternity. Upon graduation he started his career at The Standard Insurance Company in Chicago, IL, later making his way to Philadelphia and working for Mutual of Omaha. He was employed by Cigna Insurance, as a group sales representative with the employee benefits division, in Columbus, OH, where he resided for the past four and a half years.
In 2016, Doug served as treasurer for the German Village Garden Club, Columbus, OH. He was member of Wedgewood Golf and Country Club, Powell, OH.
Doug loved to travel and visited Hawaii, Bermuda, England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. He enjoyed summers in Ocean City and Stone Harbor, NJ with his friends. He was always looking for the next place to travel. He also enjoyed exploring microbreweries and collecting stickers from each one visited. He took copious notes in his moleskine notebooks and would share his explorations with friends and family.
He was a self-appointed "foodie," and developed an expanded palate at an early age. By the age of ten, Doug was ordering escargot and foie gras from menus. Doug enjoyed entertaining his friends with backyard barbecues, sometimes getting up at 5 in the morning to smoke meats in his Green Egg. He roasted a whole pig to entertain his neighbors and friends. He often went to the North Market in Columbus for their 'blue bag' specials which contained three cuts of mystery meats. He once called home to find out how to cook tongue.
Doug was quirky and unique with a sarcastic sense of humor. He loved TN orange, Liverpool and Swansea City Soccer, skiing with Tyler, Bobby, and Pat wherever the snow took them. He was generous, kind and empathetic. He loved his family and friends and that love was returned to him.
Doug is survived by his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.
