Rita Adele Dean, 90, of Emporia died on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Holiday Resort Care Center.

Rita was born on May 15, 1926 in Clifton, Kansas the daughter of John A. and Louise Zimmer Nauman.

She married George E. Dean on October 14, 1948 in Emporia, Kansas. He survives.

Surviving family members include: husband, George E. Dean of Emporia; daughters, Sandra Kay Mahomet of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, Linda S. Ernst of Olathe, Kansas, and Deborah Dean-Flannelly of Bellingham, Washington; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and sister.

Rita was a homemaker and worked at Newman hospital where she was known as the "rainbow lady" for having the pneumatic tubes in her office painted like a rainbow.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society, and a brownie Girl Scout leader.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The rosary will be recited Thursday night at 7:00 at the church. Memorial contributions to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo in care of the funeral home.
