William Duval Pope, first son of Nathaniel, V (1761-1809) and Mary "Polly" DuVal Pope (1762-1849) was born on May 11, 1786, probably at Chilton, Montpelier, Hanover County, Va. He was a lawyer who resided at Port Royal and practiced law in King George and Westmoreland Counties. He married in 1811, near Port Royal, Eliza Skinker (c1794-), daughter of John and Eliza Bowie Skinker. Their four children were Elizabeth Skinker Jane Marshall (1812-66); Mary DuVal (1813-); Nathaniel William (1818-87) who was a school teacher in Caroline County, Va. and served in the Civil War (CSA); and Mildred Jane Pope (1818-71).
