Wells Hart Plot (Biography)

Wells heart was the second son of Samuel Hart of Winstead. His older brother Willard was killed at Cold Harbor in the Civil War. Susan Tryon was from New York State. The Hart's were tenant farmers who moved about. I have not been able to pinpoint where they were in Burrville, but I suspect that when their daughter Caroline married Chauncey Messenger in 1859, they found a place somewhere on the big Messenger Farm.

The Hart's had more than their share of hard luck. Samira, Matilda, Sarah, and Caroline all died young. The later three died in the 1861-62 epidemic. Frederick and Richard died in 1919, the time of the influenza epidemic.

Surviving children were Huldah, born 1833; Laurinda, born 1836; and William, born 1845.

* At this time, I think that Samira was buried below the Milo Burr plot in 1847 as that was the only cleared land in the cemetery at that time. Only Milos's three children pre-deceased her and the next burial after Samira was not until 1859 when Esther Curtis Burr, wife of Uriel died.
