Kenneth W. Franklin, Sr., 73, of Big Spring died Saturday, April 22, 2017, at his residence.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Rev. Alan Matthies officiating.

He was born September 5, 1943, in San Angelo to Mary Bledsoe Franklin and Jess Willard Franklin.

He lived most of his life in Big Spring and was a Baptist.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy from 1964 until 1968, serving on the guided missile destroyer, USS Towers DDG-9. He went to Viet Nam twice.

He worked most of his life in the oil field, and a worked a number of years for Walsh & Watts, retiring in 2008.

He married Donna Sue Carter, December 27, 1977, in Big Spring. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2012.

He married Ellen Jarrell on March 4, 2013.

Kenneth is survived by his wife: Ellen Franklin of Big Spring; one son: Ken Franklin, Jr. of Maricopa, Arizona; two daughters: Misty Matthies and her husband Jimmy of Big Spring and Brenda Franklin of Big Spring; two brothers: Doug Franklin and his wife Diane of Hamilton, Texas, and John Franklin and his wife Gina of Bastrop; one sister: Doris McKinnon and her husband Ray of Coahoma; six grandchildren: Bree Franklin, Ely Matthies, Krislynn Matthies, and Emma Matthies, all of Big Spring, and Ken Franklin and Candance Franklin, both of Minnesota; and one great granddaughter: Kenzlee Franklin.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Matthies, Ely Matthies, Jesse Dickens, Jerome Phifer, Wayne Wilson, and Ray McKinnon.
