Former Bronson, KS resident Arthur D. "Doe" Ireland, 91, of Garnett, KS, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Anderson County Hospital Long Term Care Facility in Garnett, Kansas.
He was born Oct. 20, 1915, in Whitewater, Kansas, to Sidney Daniel and Grace Elizabeth (Bink) Ireland.
He was graduated from Neal (Kansas) High School in 1935.
On Jan. 14, 1936, he was married to Bertha Maxine Jones in El Dorado, KS. She died April 21, 2006.
During his early years he worked at Boeing. He worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a section foreman in Bronson and Garnett, retiring after 30 years of service. He then worked in Garnett as a school bus driver and then as custodian at Longfellow School.
He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and raced stock cars from the 1930 to 1950s.
He was a racing fan and enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by a daughter, Elsie Faye Weast, of Gas, KS; three grandsons, Wesley Cook, of Ottawa, KS, Bradley Cook of Iola, KS, and Larry Weast, of La Harpe, KS; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday at Neal Cemetery in Neal, KS. The Rev. Tony Thornton will officiate.
