Bridget Roche was from Central New York, graduating from Bishop Ludden Junior/Senior High School, a private Roman Catholic school in Syracuse, in 1996. She was devout in her faith.

She moved to California, marrying Philip Jacobs in late 2015. The first known abuse happened in October 2015 while on their honeymoon in Hawaii. This assault left Bridget with a cut-up face and a bruised head. Phillip was arrested and convicted of domestic violence. She stayed with him and the abuse continued.

Bridget received help from One SAFE Place in Redding, California in March 2016 -- Philip had beaten her, choked her and threatened her with death.

The abuse continued and Bridget and Philip were finally divorced December 7, 2016.

After the divorce she gave him yet another chance and still the abuse continued – then the morning of March 15th, a 911 call came in from their Westbridge Road home. Bridget could be heard screaming in the background; the line went dead. There was no one at the home when police arrived.

Four days later, a surveillance camera captured Philip towing a boat to Whiskeytown Lake. He later admitted that after keeping her body in the home for four days he had taken Bridget’s body to the lake, tied her to a cinderblock and threw her in. He did not admit to her murder saying her death was an accident; that she fell down the stairs.

Philip was arrested and charged with Bridget’s murder. On April 12, 2017 Phillip was found dead in his Shasta County jail cell. It appears he committed suicide.

Bridget is remembered by family and friends as a mother, daughter and sister -- as a spiritual woman with a memorable smile.
