Bryden served in the US Army during WWI as an buyer/inspector of cloth for aircraft construction. He worked for the US Dept of Agriculture as a cotton grader. He was an artist. He was a loving father and care for his grandchildren. He came to the south as a buyer of cotton for the mills in Massachusetts. He started out buying from the planters with his own money, selling it to the steamboat Captain and got a free ride to New Orleans, where he would then buy it back with the company's money. He got to know the planters, who many became his friends. He help setup cotton grading to help them sell and got the USDA to take it over. Bryden worked 30 years for USDA. He met his future wife "Irene Hickman Bass" in Greenville, MS. They had three boys - Bryden Jr, Everett Bass, and Zephaniah Walter.
