DECATUR
Funeral service for Billie Joe “BJ” Simmons, 79, will be tomorrow, April 25, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Austinville Church of Christ with Ryan House officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Simmons died April 22, 2017 at his residence. He was born November 17, 1937 in Minor Hill, Tennessee to Johnie Melvin Simmons and Amber Bassham Simmons.
Mr. Simmons retired from Bellsouth as a manager after 32 years of service. He was a member of Cross Point Church of Christ in Florence and Austinville Church of Christ in Decatur. Mr. Simmons was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He enjoyed fishing, especially with his family, and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bobby Simmons; two sisters, Margaret Elrod and Ruby Jean Woolen.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Simmons, of Decatur; one son, Kelly Simmons (Jonnie), of Decatur; one daughter,Dorinda Folse, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one sister,Shirley Russell, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Nicholas Simmons, Brock Folse (Alyson), and Chris Simmons (Jessica); and one great-grandchild, Cooper Simmons.
Pallbearers will be Jessica Simmons, Alyson Folse, Sophia Barnes, Debbie Jones, Gena Tsukashima and Angie Siebert.
