It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Wendell Lorne DeLong, age 82. He died unexpectedly on March 5, 2011 at the Doctor George Dumont Hospital, Moncton, NB while surrounded by his wife and children.

Wendell was born on December 11, 1928 son of the late George and Eva (Ketch) DeLong. Wendell is survived by his wife Shirley DeLong, Woodstock, NB, four daughters; Glenna Monteith, Fredericton, NB, Wanda House, Fredericton, NB, Darlene Polchies (Brock), Woodstock, NB, Shelley Cluff (Kevin), Woodstock, NB, two sons, Earl (Debbie), Woodstock, NB, Wayne (Beth), Woodstock, NB, ten Grandchildren, three Great Grandchildren, sister, Azlee Cook, Woodstock, NB, brother, Stanley, Fredericton, NB, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Wendell was predeceased by sisters; Florence, Alma, Ruth, Jessie, Velma, Glenna, brothers; Earl, Elmer and Lloyd.

Wendell had a strong work ethic and was employed in many jobs sectors but spent over 25 years as the Manager of the Woodstock Bottling Company. He also served his community as a member of the Woodstock Fire Department.

Wendell enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, driving his ATV and snowmobile. The yearly hunt for partridge resulted in a fantastic family Christmas dinner, the high light of our Christmas Season.

Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville on Tuesday, March 8 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 9, at 2 PM at The Carleton Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Murray Whitehouse officiating. Interment will be in the Charleston Cemetery at a later date.

As Expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Upper River Valley Cancer Support Group.
