They may have gotten divorced or the marriage may have been annulled. An article in the Daily Illinois State Register, stated he deserted her in May of 1891 in Seattle, Washington.
Newspaper account gives her name as Adelaide Holmes. Stating the couple met while he was attending school.
Obit stated he was cremated.
