Pfc.Tarryl Hill of Shelby Township, Michigan was a graduate of Southfield-Lathrup High School in Lathrup Village. He was raised by his grandparents and he also attended Grandmont Rosedale Christian School in Detroit, where he helped start each school day by always wanting to hold the flag and say the pledge. Tarryl was a young man who loved sports and always had time to help with pastoral ministry at Zion Temple Church of God in Christ in Romeo and he was adept at working with his hands. He would take a radio or a television, tear it down, put it back together and see what made it tick. His interest in becoming a chemical engineer led him to join the United States Marines along with his cousin. He planned to use money from the Marines to attend Lawrence Technological Institute when his time of service was over. He had been living the way he had been taught, reading his Bible and praying seven times daily. He was killed when a bomb exploded under his vehicle at age 19.
