The following obituary was published in the Quad City Times on March 8, 2010:

Herbert H. Holst, 93, of LeClaire, died Monday, March 8, 2010. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at 1 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Princeton, Iowa, Lions Club or Volunteer Fire Department.

Herbert was born and raised on the family farm in LeClaire and still slept in the same room in which he was born. He was born May 21, 1916, the son of Thomas and Anna (Spring) Holst. He was united in marriage to Edna Ricklefs on October 5, 1939, in Davenport. They recently had celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.




He was a life-long farmer in Scott County and had owned and operated Holst Trucking which he passed on to his son, Robert. He served on the board of the LeClaire Volunteer Ambulance Servce, CICL and in his earlier years, served on the Pleasant Hill School Board. He belonged to the Princeton, Iowa, Lions Club, Oddfellows, Golden Wedding Club and many, many card clubs. He also enjoyed dancing. A special thanks to the Lyle Beaver Band for the many wonderful occasions they played at for Herb and Edna over the years!

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Edna, LeClaire; sons, Wayne (Mary Ann) and Robert (Heidi), both of LeClaire, and Harlan (Valerie), Chicago; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Judy Holst, LeClaire; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, son, Ronald, grandson, Dakota Holst, and a brother, Arnold, preceded him in death.
