Jack Dalton Bishop, 76, died peacefully in his Salt Lake City home on February 4, 2017, with his loving family by his side.
Jack was born on February 19, 1940 in Porterville, CA to Jack Curtis Bishop and Madge Evelyn Henry. He married Virginia Carole Oppel on January 2, 1960, and the couple had three children. They later divorced, and Jack married Mary Wilson, and was privileged to raise her two daughters and grandson.
Jack joined the 101st Airborne Division at the age of 17. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, Jack was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, among others awards and honors. He honorably retired in 1977 as a Sergeant First Class, after a faithful 20 years of service. He was proud to serve his country, and instilled that patriotism within his family.
He is survived by his children: Terry (Scot) Mason, Paul Bishop, Dawn Bishop, Aimie Wilson, Adam Bishop, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his stepdaughter, Suzanne Wilson.
A memorial service will be held in the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park at Camp Williams.
