Harriet W. Jackson Smith, 79, of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at St. Paul's Indian Mission with Reverend Dr. Marilyn van Duffelen officiating. Interment will follow at Logan Park Cemetery.
Harriet was born on August 29, 1937 in Niobrara, Nebraska to Earlwin and Nora (LaCroix) Fraizer. She received her education in Marty, South Dakota. Harriet moved from Niobrara to Sioux City before spending a brief stay in Burbank, California. She moved from California back to Sioux City, and has since remained. Harriet worked for IBP for 20 years before joining the workforce for the City of Sioux City, where she was a parking lot attendant. Harriet married Walter W. Smith on March 3, 1994 in Sioux City. She was a proud member of the St. Paul's Indian Mission, where she helped with meals prior to church services in her earlier years. Harriet enjoyed playing Bingo, and would enjoy going to the various casinos in the Sioux City area. In the 1990's, Harriet was awarded a special recognition for her volunteering in the Sioux City area.
Harriet is survived by her children Ronald "Dino" Vedin of Sioux City, Kevin W. Vedin of Burbank, California, John E. Vedin of Palmdale, California, and Fraizer L. Vedin of Burbank, California; life-partner Charles "Ed" Mullins of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren Chad, Deana, Ron Jr., John Jr., Taylor, Andrew, and Matthew; great-grandchild Johnny; sisters Beverly Chapman-Estes of Sioux City and Agnes Jamlin of Dalton, Georgia; and brother Larry Fraizer of Tecumseh, Nebraska.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, infant grandchild Tyson, and sisters Norma Jean Goulette and Elizabeth White.
