Lydia S. Lee, 92, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday April 20, 2017 in her apartment at Sanctuary at St. Paul's.

She was born on August 26, 1924, in Beijing, China, to the late General Shen Chun Chi and Thang Lu Yun.

On December 18, 1948 she married Lawrence H. N. Lee, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Nora M. Lee and brother Peter (Lucy) Shen of Los Angeles, CA.

Lydia is survived by her son Lynn L. "Max" Lee of South Bend; three grandchildren, Christopher L. Lee (Abby) of Kirkland, WA, Lauren E. Lee (Nate) – McCormick of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Abigail M. Lee of Rochester, NY; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Shen of Beijing, China.

Mrs. Lee was a beloved Teacher for over 20 yrs. with the South Bend School Corporation at Swanson Highlands Elementary School. She loved traveling and supporting her husband whenever he traveled to other countries for conferences and to present his professional papers.

Lydia loved to spend time with her family, was an ardent ND football fan, wonderful wife and loved to cook and entertain by hosting many amazing pre-game parties (her famous egg rolls). She was the President of the Lady's of Notre Dame, was an artist and tennis player.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday May 4, 2017 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 North Bendix Drive, South Bend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:30 p.m. Friday May 5, 2017 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame.

Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame.

Memorial contributions may be made to University of Notre Dame, Humane Society of St. Joseph County and Center for Hospice Care.
