Gaines Vaughn Smith Jr. "Cajun," 77, Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Sun., July, 31, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital. The son of Gaines and Verda (Shows) Smith, he was born June 29, 1939, in Richland Parish, La. Cajun married Sharon Marlow on Sept. 13, 1980, in Blue Springs. He was a member of IBEW Local 53 and worked as a General Foreman for Capital Electric. Cajun was a former member of the Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City, Mo. He enjoyed traveling with his 5th wheel camper, yard work and tinkering around the house. Survivors include wife, Sharon of Blue Springs; children, Glenda Barlow of Quitman, La., Loretta Smith of Independence, Mo., Stephen Layne Smith of Kansas City; step-children, Jayne Wells and husband Mark of Lee's Summit, Mo., John Marlow of Grain Valley, Mo.; sister, Nedra Vines of Dodson, La.; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Smith; step-son, Christopher Marlow; five siblings. A Celebration of Life Service for Cajun will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wed., Aug. 3, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs. The family suggest that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimers Association or Cancer Society .
