Edward Lynn "Buck" Buchanan was born in Bellaire, Ohio on September 30, 1948 to Rallo and Cleo (Miller) Buchanan. He graduated from Bellaire High School and enjoyed playing the trumpet and participated in marching band and basketball. His favorite song was Onward Christian Soldiers and he dreamed of starting a television repair business with his father, but the Vietnam War would change the direction of his future plans. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in October of 1968. Upon completion of basic training and Ground Radio Repair Tech Training, he was assigned to Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota, where he completed his four-year military service.

During his military service, he married Carol Olson on September 25, 1970 and later had their first child Sarah (Buchanan) Ball in January 1972 at Grand Forks AFB, ND, then relocated to Larimore, ND. After being honorably discharged in 1972, he entered into the U.S. Department of Defense as a Civil Service Electrical Engineering Planner. In 1974, their second child, Mellissa (Buchanan) Purvis, was born in Grand Forks, ND. Ed and his family lived at their home in Larimore, ND until 1989, when they moved their house to a 3-acre lot in Arvilla Township, just outside of Larimore. Ed and Carol continued to build their dream home together and were married for 46 years.

Edward's faith was very strong and the center of his life. He was a Christian man and loved God and his family. He and his family thought of him as the ROCK of the family and the GLUE that bound them together in their faith. Ed was a man of few words, but his family loved, respected and adored him. When he spoke, they all listened. He enjoyed participating in the celebration services at church and playing cards at the Grand Forks Senior Center. He also enjoyed building models, gardening, and participating in the Antique Automobile Club of America. He participated in his local AACA club in Grand Forks, where he participated in many roles, including President of the local club and was a member of the National AACA for 45 years. In 2004, Edward and Carol were accepted into the AACA Honor Society of the National Club. Over the years, they attended many car shows and judging meets across the county. They also enjoyed spending time with their daughters on fishing and camping trips to Lake Ashtabula, Devils Lake, and many other destinations. Edward worked for 38 years and retired on September 25, 2006.

Edward is preceded in death by his mother, Cleo (Miller) Buchanan, and his father, Rallo Buchanan. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Olson) Buchanan of Larimore, ND; daughter, Sarah (Steven) Ball of Brighton, CO; daughter, Mellissa (Dean) Purvis of Grand Forks, ND; grandson, Thomas Ball of Thornton, CO; granddaughter, Kimberly Ball of Brighton, CO; and two sisters: Sue Eastwood of Bellaire, OH and Pattie (Dwight) Major of Paintsville, KY; and two nephews.
