He received many awards, among them the 1983 Alberta Order of Big Horn for outstanding contributions to conservation of Albertas Fish and Wildlife resources. In 1992 the Commemorative Medal, 125th Fish Anniversary Conservation of Canada Medal. In 1996 Alberta Fish and Game Distinguished Service Award. Alva was a good citizen, helping the community wherever possible. He worked with Boy Scouts, the Canoe Club, Bonanza Days, Tourism and was an authority on archeology in Southern Alberta and guided tours.
Besides his loving wife, Nellie, left to mourn is a son, Ronald (Joyce Ray) Bair, of Milk River; a daughter, Lorna Bair, of Lethbridge; three sisters, Lena Lyall, of Milk River, Marjorie (Fred) Farmer of Ottawa, and Irene (Ken) Welsh, of Milk River; a brother, John (Donna) Bair of Lethbridge and their families. Alva was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Teddy Bair, and a brother in Law, Herb Lyall. He died 4 Mar 1999 in Milk River at the age of 80 yrs., and was buried in Milk River Cemetery on 8 Mar 1999.
