Following the service, a Celebration of Her Life gathering will be held at First Baptist Church in Seagraves, Texas from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Maxine was born in Loop, Texas, to Rufus and Jewel (Smith) Mills in 1923. She graduated from Loop High School in 1939 and attended Wayland Baptist College where she played basketball with the Wayland Flying Queens for a season. Soon after, she married Glen King of Loop. Together, they raised four children: Dennis, Arnold, Angie and Kim. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother to her eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A devout Christian, Maxine was baptized at an early age at the First Baptist Church in Loop. Later, she became a member of First Baptist Church in Seagraves, Texas. For 93 years she was able to live independently and do it her way. Those who knew her will remember her as a selfless and caring person. She took great pleasure in cooking for other people and will be remembered for her competitive spirit in playing games - she loved poker and dominoes, and played Scrabble with her kids until the very end. She is survived by her brother, Pete Mills and his wife, Rose, of Midland, Texas. She is also survived by her children: Dennis King and wife, Shirley, of Albuquerque, NM; Arnold King and wife, Willeene, of Granbury, Texas; Angie McHorse and husband, Scott, of Grapevine, Texas; and Kim Cooper and husband, Mark, of Christoval, Texas; as well as her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Roy Mills and Jewel Ever (Smith) Jones, and by her husband, Glen King. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Harbor Lakes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Interim Health Care in Granbury for the dedicated care and support of our family during her final days.
