John O Connell Is Called By Death
Funeral Services Were Held Wednesday Morning at St. Bridget’s Church
PINHOOK (SPECIAL) – This community was saddened Saturday evening when John O Connell, well known farmer, passed away in his home at the age of 74 years. Death followed a lingering illness. He was born March 5, 1867, in Sumner Township, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Michael and Hannah O Connell. On October 24, 1895, he was married to Mary Ann Kellner of Sumner, Iowa. To this union eight children were born. He was preceded in death by Bess, an infant daughter, Mrs. Martha Westervelt of Plainfield, also his wife, who died in 1933. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Chandler, of Clinton, IL, Mrs. Opal Dringenberg, of Waterloo, Mrs. Bernice Barbknecht of Frederika, Vella at home; two sons, Cecil and Leo, at home; several grandchildren. Also five brothers, Tom of Tripoli, Edward of Yankton, SD, Stephen of Armour, SD, Peter of Geddes, SD, Henry of Charles City, IA; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Damuth of San Diego, CA and Mrs. Lucy Hagarty of Greene, IA. Mr. O Connell spent nearly all his life on his home place, with the exception of one year that he lived in Minnesota, and four years spent in Missouri. Funeral services were held from St. Bridget’s Catholic church, Pinhook, Wednesday morning, with burial in the Mentor cemetery, beside the body of his wife.
