SOUTH BEND - Barbara A. Horvath, 80, passed away at 8:20 am Monday, April 17, 2017, in her son's residence. Barbara was born on September 15, 1936, in South Bend, to John and Bernice (Dygulski) Nitka. She was the owner of Kalico Kitchen and was employed at Sol's Hardware Store. Barb was a member of St. Monica Parish, its Altar & Rosary Society and was a cooking teacher as well as a track coach. On October 22, 1955, in South Bend, she married Richard W. “Botchie” Horvath. He died on October 22, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Horvath. Surviving are 3 daughters, Lee Ann (Rick) Bubp of Plymouth, Karen Horvath and Nancy (Gene) Fletcher, both of South Bend, a son, Mark (Debby) Horvath of Lakeville, 9 grandchildren, Jason (Sara) Hill, Sarah (Raphael) Hendrix, Jessica Bubp, Justin (Hillary) Horvath, Chad (Erica) Horvath, Matthew Horvath, Tyler (Christy) Fletcher, Trevor Fletcher and Trenton Fletcher, 11 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Gerald (Maureen) Nitka of South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, April 21, 2017, in St. Monica Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2-8 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 pm. Visitation will also take place on Friday from 9:00 am to 9:45 am in St. Monica Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Monica Church or to The Center for Hospice.
