Mrs Brown Dies!
Aunt of Vice President Curtis Was An Old Settler
Lived in One of First Houses Built Along The Kaw

Mrs Sarah E. Brown, aunt of Vice President Charles Curtis and one of the oldest residents of North Topeka, died at her home Saturday evening about 10 o'clock at 215 West Curtis. She was 94 years old.
Mrs Brown's father sold his 600 acre farm in Indiana and moved to Kansas in 1859, on hearing that Kansas was becoming a great state. He bought 200 acres along the Kaw River in North Topeka from Louis Pappan. It was on this land that the residence was built in which Mrs Brown lived from 1875 until her death. The house was one of the first houses on the north side of the river, and one of the finest houses in Kansas, when built.
Mrs Brown has always taken a keen interest in her nephew, Charles Curtis, and he was a great admirer of his aunt. She was one of the honor guests at the celebration at the state house on August 18, 1928, when her nephew was notified of his nomination for vice presidency of the United States.
She is also an aunt of Mrs Rome Colvin, of Topeka, and Mrs Edward E. Gann. She is also survived by a son, Frank Brown, of Washington DC, Orren Curtis, Vice President Curtis father was her brother.
Funeral services will be privately held from the Conwell Mortuary at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in the Curtis Cemetery at the foot of North Harrison street. It is requested by the family that no flowers be sent.
