Karen was born June 3, 1935, in Aberdeen, SD to Kenneth L. and Anne (Peterson) Lewis. After graduating from high school she traveled to Riverside, CA, where she met De Benson, the love of her life. Once De finished Air Force basic training, he and Karen were married in White, SD. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places during the 20 years she spent as the wife of a military member. They retired and started the next chapter of their life in Rapid City, SD.

Karen had many interests and talents. She loved camping, fishing, and travel. Most important to her was spending time with her family. She loved to meet people and made everyone feel special which led to her opening BH Employment Agency. She was a talented poetry writer and singer. She was involved and contributed much of her time supporting fraternal organizations, military organizations, and the United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and served as President of the Lariats.

She will be loved and always remembered by her husband of 62 years; her three children, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild,one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Neil Lewis; and sisters, Jane Sunderland, and Meryl Olsen.
