   Born in Devils Lake, N. D., Mrs. McPhail was reared in Bellingham. She lived in Seattle 40 years before moving to California in 1958. Her husband, Laughlin, died 30 years ago.
   Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Olive Thomas, Seattle, and a son, Richard McPhail, Santa Monica."
