Richard E. Cheek,84, completed his journey through life on April 15, 2017.
Richard was born in Forsyth County to the late Jonah R. and Kate Brown Cheek who taught him at an early age that family was very important. He attended Winston Salem / Forsyth County Schools, graduating from Mineral Springs High School. Richard served in the United States Air Force for four years, based in Tucson, Arizona, where he attended classes at the University of Arizona. He retired from Archer Aluminum after 30 years of service and enjoyed woodworking in his retirement.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Cheek and George Martin.
Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sally Flynt Cheek; one son, D. Bradley Cheek and wife Johnna; one daughter, Holly C. Kidd and husband Jeffrey; four grandchildren, Andrew Spencer Cheek, Anna Kate Cheek, Georgia Frances Kidd and Samuel Everett Kidd; and sister-in-law, Susan Cooley and husband Phil.
Richard’s grandchildren were his pride and joy, and always brought a smile to his face. He loved his Lord and his church family. A member of First Baptist Church of Walnut Cove, Richard served as trustee, deacon, and on various committees.
The family will receive friends and celebrate Richard’s life at a reception in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church of Walnut Cove on Monday, April 17, 2017, from 3:00-5:00pm.
The family would like to say a heartfelt “Thank You” to the staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home who took excellent care of Richard in his last days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Youth c/o First Baptist Church of Walnut Cove, P.O. Box 552, Walnut Cove, NC 27052.
