Mildred "Joy" Behymer, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, on Sunday April 9th, at the age of 90. She was born on September 21, 1926 at her family home near, Fruitvale, in Van Zandt County, Texas.
Coming from humble beginnings, Joy, along with her three sisters and two brothers, had many memorable adventures living out in the country. Being a true, "country girl", she told many stories about riding her horse to school. Joy, also learned at a very young age, that hard work and perseverance would serve her well throughout her lifetime.
In the early 1940's, she met and married the father of her five children, William Washington "Bill" Burrow. Bill was a Master Sergeant with the Army Air Corps (later US Air Force), during WWII. While Bill was off serving his country, Joy kept the, "home fires burning", raising her children and working full-time. She was a very loving mother with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. Not much got past her! As was her style, she typically faced adversity and life's problems, head on.
Tragically, two of those life events were the passing of her only daughters, Cam at age 3 and Pat at age 35.
Despite many setbacks, Joy was able to persevere and found happiness in her early 50's, when she met and married, Bill Behymer. They shared many wonderful years at their home in Julesburg, Colorado. Together, with their, two "green thumbs", they developed the most beautiful garden and manicured landscaping. It was, "paradise on earth!" Many happy hours were devoted to their combined passions of gardening. Another of Joy's many talents, was cooking. There was always enough room at the table for one more, as her children would often invite a friend to enjoy their mom's home cooked meals. Joy was especially known for her homemade fried chicken. She would welcome any and everyone who showed up at the table, with open arms and a meal they would not soon forget!
Upon Bill's passing in 2003, Joy moved to New Braunfels to be closer to her sons and their families.
She will be greatly missed, as she was loved by many and never met a stranger. We are very grateful that she is at rest and no longer in pain. Joy was preceded in death by Bill Burrow, Patricia Ann Burrow, Camelia Joy Burrow, her late husband, Bill Behymer, and her five siblings.
Surviving Joy, are her sons, Mike Burrow and Hope Bowden, James "Ike" Burrow, Al and Carol Burrow; grandson, Dallas Burrow and twins, Eian and Ethan Pullin. She is also survived by a great-grandson, William Washington Burrow III "Tex", as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, April 14,, 2017 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
