Born in Elyria, Ohio on October 28, 1953. Michael James Whitmore was active in the Lorain County area and worked as an announcer and "dj" for radio stations WZLE FM and WEOL AM in the 1970s into the late 1990s.

In 1998, he left broadcasting to become the director of government affairs for the Building Industries Association of Lorain County, later to be known as the North Coast BIA.

In 1999, Mr. Whitmore was named administrative coordinator of the Lorain County Community Alliance, a council of local government representatives involved in regional planning.

He was the vice president of the Brownhelm Historical Association, as well as president of the Brownhelm Community Christmas and a member of the South Amherst Rotary.
