Services are Pending. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Survivors include his wife of over 37 years, Joan; children, Tim (Karen Prigmore) Hoffman, Meridith Hoffman, and Natalie (Steve) Hand; grandchildren, Ryan Hoffman and Charlotte, Thomas, and Teddy Hand; siblings, Keith (Linda) Burge and Linda (Earl) Freese; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
David Burge was born October 3, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, to Vernon and Helen (Light) Burge.
He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1962, joined the Air Force, and later became a Union Pipefitter for the Cedar Rapids Local 125.
He married Joan Wallace on November 10, 1979, in Mount Vernon.
David would show love for his family by fixing and taking care of things so they didn’t have to worry about them. He was a practical man, enjoyed gardening, and especially loved spending time with his beloved family.
Memorials may be directed to the City of Mount Vernon for the Veteran’s Memorial at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, or to Hospice of Mercy.
How lucky we were to love someone that made saying goodbye so hard.
