OBITUARY:
LANE, Jack Edward II

Jack passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in his home on March 30, 2017. Jack was a very fun loving father and grandfather who enjoyed traveling and sharing time and love with family and friends more than anything.

Born in Pullman Washington on August 23, 1934, Jack graduated from Pullman High School in 1952. He wanted to become a teacher so off to Cheney he went, majoring in Education.

In college he played baseball, joined the National Guard and ran the student union cafeteria at night. Jack often spoke of his college years as being some of the greatest years of his life.

In 1956 he married his college sweetheart Shirley Roller and took a job with the Army Corps of Engineers at Fairchild Air Force Base.

They moved to Wenatchee in the fall of 1957 where Jack worked for the county for two years. In 1959 he started teaching at Cashmere High School where he coached and taught history for eight years. He earned an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1961.

In 1962 Jack Jr. was born. By 1965 Jack earned his M.Ed.

In 1967 the family moved to Spokane where Jack began teaching at Salk Jr. High School. He became the history department chairman while coaching football, basketball and baseball for several years. His teams won several league championships over the years including the girls basketball teams who were undefeated for 6 years in a row. Jack taught at Salk for over 20 years and retired in 1989 after 31 years of teaching.

Jack was an avid Cougar sports fan and took numerous trips all over the U.S. to watch the teams he loved. Some of the teams he traveled to watch were Auburn, Notre Dame, USC, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Always up for a good time, he also loved to go camping with family and friends to places like Priest Lake Idaho and Fairmont Hot Springs in his Volkswagen Camper Van.

He was an active member of the Spokane Eagles Club. He also participated in 30+ years of the Bloomsday walk/runs. His fun loving adventurous spirit will be immensely missed.

He is survived by his son Jack Edward Lane III and wife Kathleen Lane, two grandchildren Connor Lane and Julianne Lane of Seattle, WA, his sister Susan Roleich of Rosalia WA, niece Wendy Windhorst, and nephews Douglas Crowe, Kevin Crowe, Keith Lewis, and Brett Lewis.

He is preceded in death by his father Leon Lane, his mother Marjorie Davis, and sister Betty Crowe.

A memorial service will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park Sunset Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA 99208 on Sunday April 23, 1:00 PM. Reception to follow at the Eagles Club 6410 North Lidgerwood Street, Spokane, WA 99208.
