"M'ran," as she was known to those who loved her, was born in Rahway on April 21, 1929 to the late William and Mary Lyell, and grew up in Flemington. A longtime resident of Toms River, she was married for 47 years to the late David Wallace Elliott, formerly principal of Lacey Township and Lanoka Harbor Elementary Schools. Mrs. Elliott graduated from Georgian Court College. She is survived by her sons, Leonard and William, and their spouses, Mary Elliott and Stephan Caldwell, respectively; her daughter, Eileen Elliott and her husband Richard Allen; and her grandchildren Michael, Jason and David Elliott and their families. Mary Anne will be remembered always for her eccentric, rebellious spirit, her boundless love and generosity, and her kindness to animals. Donations can be made to the Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York (www.farmsanctuary.org), the ASPCA (www.aspca.org) or the Humane Society (www.humanesociety.org). A special thanks to the amazing nurses of the Barnabas Health Van Dyke Hospice.
