J.W. Bill Thalken, 72, of Stockton, died Wednesday in a Livermore hospital. A native of Nebraska, Mr. Thalken had lived in Stockton 20 years. During World War II, he was a B-17 pilot in the U.S. Army-Air Force ad was a prisoner of war. He retired as lieutenant colonel after 25 years with the U.S. Air Force. He then was an inspector with the Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms Division of the U.S. Treasury in Lodi for 10 years. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church. Survivors include wife Jean A. Thalken; five sons, a daughter, two brothers, Tom and Francis Thalken; a sister, Margaret Thalken, and five grandchildren.
