He was born on April 5, 1965 in Monmouth, IL to Larry and Karen Efaw Mitchell. He was a graduate of Warren High School and attended Illinois Valley Junior College. Matt was employed over twenty years at Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg. He also had a great talent for building Harley Davidson motorcycles which was his recent interest.
Survivors include three children, Zachary and Morgan Mitchell of Galesburg, IL and Cameron Mitchell of Smithfield, VA; his mother, Karen (Dennis) Pilkington of Niota, IL and his father, Larry (Jane) Mitchell of Cameron, IL; two sisters, Kimberly Samuel of Mokena, IL and Lara Haase of Ft. Madison; a brother, Adam Mitchell of Cameron, IL; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a special friend, Tammy. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory and there will be no formal services at this time. A graveside service will be held in Silent Home Cemetery, Cameron, IL at a later date.
