Richard Justus Franks, age 86, of Elmer, MO passed from this life on April 12, 2017 at Loch Haven Nursing home in Macon, MO.

Richard was born January 12, 1931 at Elmer, MO at the home of his grandparents the son of Clay and Viola (Enyart) Franks. On December 20, 1955 he was united in marriage to Louise Drake in Kansas City, MO.

Richard is survived by his wife, Louise of Elmer; son, Robert Dale Franks (Jefri) of Parkville, MO; daughter, Phyllis Ann Smoot (Danny) of Atlanta, MO; 2 grandsons, Donald Justus Smoot (Kristin) of Macon; Adam Daniel Smoot (Michele) of Hannibal; 7 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Morgan, Mason, Lukas, Elaina, Asher & Emerson; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, USAF First Lt. Bobby Franks.

Richard was a 1948 graduate of Elmer High School and then served in the U.S. Army as a medic in Germany attaining the rank of Corporal. He farmed all of his adult life and also worked 18 years at Toastmaster in Macon. He was 15 years old when he accepted the Lord and was a deacon at the Elmer Baptist Church of which he was a member for many years. He had served on the board of Loch Haven for 12 years and also served on the Elmer School Board for 12 years. He was a member of Gideon International since 1986. Richard enjoyed going to meetings and handing out bibles at local schools.

When he was a young adult he enjoyed hunting, trapping and playing baseball. Richard always loved spending time with his family and in his later years he enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, being with his cat Blue, and traveling to Arizona with Louise. They both loved traveling to Brazil to see their foreign exchange "daughter" Ingrid and her family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 17, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Elliott Funeral Home in Atlanta with Rev. Danny Welte officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the Elmer Cemetery, Elmer, MO
