Gaffney, SC - - Wayne Edgar Powell, 76, of 206 W. Ninth Street, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Morganton, NC, he was the husband of the late Mary Idale Grubb Powell and son of the late Lewis Edgar Powell and Jessie Upchurch Powell. He retired from the U. S. Air Force, loved to read and write about Bible studies, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Wayne (Ed) Powell, Jr. and his wife, Libby, of Duncan; two brothers, Robert (Bob) Powell of Morganton, NC and David Powell and his wife, Miriam, of Gaffney; a sister, Patricia Elrod of Morganton, NC; four grandchildren, Megan Powell, Nick Powell, Bradley Powell and Joshua Powell.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother, Joe Powell.

Rev. Alan Peeler officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Gardens with military honors.
