Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with Gary Mitchell officiating.
Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from noon until the service hour today at the funeral home.
A native of Herndon, he was born Nov. 17, 1928, the son of the late John Whitaker "Whit" Buchanan and Kathleen Griffey Buchanan. He was retired from the United States Postal Service. He also retired as a school bus driver from the Christian County Public School System. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served in the Korean War.
He was a member and officer in the former Pennyrile Horse Club, a member of the former Pennyrile Wing Rider Motorcycle Club, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Trail of Tears Horse and Wagon Run Committee. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a member of Herndon United Methodist Church where he had served as song leader, trustee, and choir member. He was currently attending Locust Grove Baptist Church and Liberty Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sara Clardy Buchanan; his daughter, Kathy Buchanan Waldrop; his great-grandson, Roy Whitaker "Whit" Brame; and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Buchanan; his son, Jerry (Cathy) Buchanan, Herndon; the mother of his children, Jane Buchanan; his step daughters, Teresa Fritz, Hopkinsville and Melissa (Dave) Davis, Dacula, Ga.; one granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
