Ellen is the beloved mother of Gale (Glyn) Howell of Garden City, Michigan, Jim (Judy) Payne of White County, Tennesee, and Mike (Jan) Payne of Davidson County, Tennessee.
Beloved Grannie of Cheryl (Mike) Bertha of Livonia Michigan, Chris (Kathy) Howell of Ypsilanti Michigan, Brent (Amanda) Howell of Bowling Green Kentucky, and Tony, April and Chad Payne of Davidson County, Tennessee.
Precious great - grannie of Lauren (Joe), Michael (Amy), Hayley, Savannah, Alex, Patrick, Ashley, Michael Kelly, Samantha, Trent, and Hannah.
Great-great grannie of Brady, Joey and baby boy expected in May. She is the beloved sister of Wilma Healy of Garden City, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, parents Tom and Velvia West Carter, sister Margie McGowan, infant sisters Margaret Juanita and Ruby Edna and dear grandson, Brian Lewis Payne, who was killed in a traffic mishap. (# 29378203)
She was a long-time member of the West Sparta Church of Christ and a teacher in the children's Bible class for many years. She worked at Mallory before her retirement.
She leaves behind many friends who affectionately called her "Grannie Payne" or "Miss Ellen".
Her Service will be conducted on Monday, April 17, 2017 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with interment in the Highland Cemetery. Derrick Coble will officiate.
Jeff Guth, Jeff Young, Jeff Turner, Jim Metcalf, Steve Howell and Eddie Rogers will serve as pallbearers.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Sparta Church of Christ library.
