Frederick W. Lewis, age 67, of Hazel Park, passed away April 8, 2017, after battling cancer. Fred graduated from Hazel Park High School.

He enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served in the Vietnam War.

Fred retired from the City of Hazel Park after 37 years of service. During his time with the City, he was employed part-time by Beaumont Hospital Security. Fred also retired from the 43rd District Court (Ferndale). He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #130.

His witty sense of humor was second to none, and he enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy (Robidou), daughter, Lisa (Brent) Bernys, sons, Paul (Kerri) Lewis and Jeff (Jennifer) Lewis, seven grandchildren, sisters, Geri O'Meara and Elsie Merrifield, and brother, Dennis (Kathy) Lewis.

He was preceded in death by parents, Hershel and Mary Lewis, sister, Cookie Szymanski, brothers-in-law, Larry Szymanski, Ed O'Meara, and Frank Merrifield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America (www.vva.org).

Memorial visitation Wednesday, April 12th from 3 to 8 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R Road, Madison Heights. Instate on Thursday, April 13th at 10:30 am with Mass at 11 am at St. Mary Magdalen, Hazel Park.
