Philip E. DeMarco, 64, of Fall River, husband of Helen M. (Soares) and the late Lyn M. DeMarco, passed away on Wednesday, surrounded by his family. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Nicholas A. and Laura (Guay) DeMarco.
He was a successful contractor in home construction for over 40 years. Philip was a football star for Somerset High School and went on to college at UMass Amherst. In his younger years, he was active in various sports such as softball, golfing, and bowling. More recently, he enjoyed navigating his beloved boat "The Helen Marie" down the Narragansett River. A huge movie and music buff, he was also considered to be a “wealth” of information. Philip had a kind and generous heart, and an incredible sense of humor. He could recite a joke like no one else. He also enjoyed traveling worldwide, loved the holidays, and was an amazing storyteller. What was most important to him was family. He raised his step-great-granddaughter Tyra and they had a very special bond.
Besides his wife, he leaves his children: Lee E. DeMarco of Framingham, Lindsey Kelly and husband Kevin of Weymouth; stepsons: Michael and Anthony Smith of Fall River; stepdaughter Elisa Smith of New Bedford; a brother Patrick DeMarco (late wife-Marie) of Florida; 12 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Philip was about to be a Grandpa for the first time. He was also the step-father of the late Michele Ann Smith and brother of the late Albert DeMarco, Helen Fonseca, and Margaret Tucker.
His funeral will be held from the Silva-Faria Somerset Funeral Home, 84 County St., Somerset, with his funeral Mass in Holy Name Church, Fall River. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River MA.
