Obituary for George Emil Jennings
George Emil Jennings, 92, a life resident of Indianapolis, passed away April 12, 2017, at St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove. George was born February 23, 1925, to the late Erma (Oeftering) and William P. Jennings.

George graduated from Sacred Heart High School and served two years in the United States Navy during World War II, being stationed at Pearl Harbor. He owned Jennings Meat Market on Clifton Street for many years. He also owned a store in Beech Grove for several years and worked for McFarling Foods until he retired.

George married Maryfrances “Mike” Wendling in November of 1947. They were charter members of St. Mark Catholic Church and spent many years in service to their church family. They were both honored by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis with the Spirit of Service Award in 2010. George was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3660.

George is survived by his wife, Maryfrances “Mike”; twelve children, Bill (Marie Hilda), Ann (Phil) Breedlove, Sue Hillman, Tom (Mary Lynn), Joan (John) Sanew, Joyce (Bob) Myles, Holly Jennings, Ginny (Chuck) Taylor, Terri (Rick) Utterback, George (Tammy), Paul (Jane), and John (Amy); sister, Julia O’Farrell; 29 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a sister, Delia Rose Jennings.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017, 4 to 8 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St. (US Hwy. 31 South), where morning prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, in St. Mark Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Hermitage,
