Dolores was born in Flint Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Arlene McDonald Denz. She married James Allen on June 6, 1959, in City of Burton, Genesee County, Michigan. Dolores and James had three sons - Douglas, David and James along with six grandchildren. Dolores was the salutatorian of the Class of 1958, at Bentley Schools in City of Burton, Genesee County, Michigan.
