Richard "Dick" McCain, 93, formerly of Carroll County, passed away on April 10, 2017 at Milner Community Healthcare in Rossville where he had been a resident since 2013.

Dick was born on August 12, 1923 in Carroll County, Indiana to the late Carl Bliss and Margaret (Guard) McCain. He was a 1944 graduate of Flora High School.

Dick served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was injured and was a POW, while serving in Germany and earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Awards. He served from 1944-1946.

After serving his country, he came home to the family farm and began his farming career. He retired from farming in 1989.

He married Joan Hannell on September 2, 1950 at Radnor, Indiana. Together he and Joan began farming with her father in Madison Township. She preceded him on June 17, 2013.

He was a charter member of the Carroll County Antique Tractor and Machinery club and received the Wall of Fame Award. Dick also served on the Burlington and Salin Bank boards for 15 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge the Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and the Living Faith Church of the Brethren.

He enjoyed antique tractors, going to parades, plow days and several festivals. He enjoyed cooking pork chops with the Carroll County Pork Producers and served as Madison Township Director for them until 1990. Dick enjoyed singing in the church choirs. He had sung in church choruses in Delphi and Flora and in Flora's Easter Sunrise services for 28 years.

He is survived by a niece and nephew and cousin, Jim McCain; the Peters family who are family friends and caretakers, Kenny & Jerilynn Hodson. Along with his parents, and wife Joan, he was preceded by his brother, George Robert McCain and sister, Mary Virginia Richards.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Jeff Tomson will officiate. Burial will follow in Zion Citizens Cemetery, rural Bringhurst. Military Gravesite Rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard.
