Born March 19, 1934 in Pecatonica, IL the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert and Joy (nee Clikeman) Allen. He lived his entire life in the Pecatonica area. He graduated from Pecatonica High School, Class of 1952. He married the former Rosemary Denniston in St. Mary Church in Rockford, IL on November 19, 1955. Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Navy from 1952-1955.
He was employed in sales by Mott Brothers for 34 years. Member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Pecatonica, IL and Knights of Columbus men’s group Father Reedy Council 4941 Bishop Peter J. Muldoon Assembly 190 Past Faithful Navigator, served on Bishop Honor Guard and was 3rd and 4th Degree member. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He enjoyed camping and traveling, especially to southern Texas where he and Rosemary wintered after retirement. He was an avid Cubs fan and the highlight of that was the World Series win of 2016.
Family members include wife Rosemary Allen; five daughters Valerie Allen-Morrissey (deceased), Monica (Steven) Sandahl, Frances (Randy, deceased) Yankus, Mary (Peter) Allen-Verdun and Peg (Dan) Neir; grandchildren Kristin (Kevin) Rauch, Sarah Sandahl, Andrew Sandahl, Valerie Verdun, Mary Elizabeth Verdun, Ryan (Sara) Neir, Rachel (Linsey Brown) Neir and Ross Neir; great grandchildren Blair and Rylee Rauch and sisters Nancy Collalti and Eva Lemanski. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father John Holcomb, daughter Valerie Allen-Morrissey; son-in-law Randy Yankus and nephew Christopher Collalti.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 126 West Fifth Street, Pecatonica, IL with Reverend Joseph Jaskierny officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Pecatonica, IL. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home-Pecatonica Chapel, 203 West Fifth Street, Pecatonica, IL from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 14 with a scripture service to be held at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.
