James L. Antoine, age 90 of Toledo, joined the Lord Friday, April 7, 2017 while under care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio - Perrysburg.
James Louis was born to Louis and Anna (Lewandowski) Antoine in Toledo on April 17, 1926. A class of ‘44 Central Catholic High graduate, Jim went on to serve his country as a radio operator on a C 47 assigned to the 9th Air Force USAAF, Orly airport France until 1946.
After completion of his tour, Jim’s civilian career began as a 7Up salesman, a stint on the Great Lakes aboard the Diamond Alkali (Boland & Cornelius), work as a US Postman and 2nd trick foreman at Willy’s Jeep. Jim was accepted into the Toledo Fire & Rescue Division In 1954 and, later, tested to the rank of Lieutenant in 1970 before retiring in 1985.
James married Mary Jane Palicki September 6, 1958 in the former St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Toledo, Ohio. A lifelong Roman Catholic, Jim was a member of several parishes during his lifetime, St. Vincent DePaul, St. Joseph ‘s(Downtown), and most recently, Christ the King.
He was also a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim volunteered as an assistant football coach (Freshmen) for Central Catholic High School from 1955 to 1963. Away from work, Jim enjoyed playing golf at his beloved Ottawa Park Golf Course with his Friday CCHS ’44 buddies, following the University of Toledo Rockets Basketball under Bobby Nichols, Rocket Football, Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, watching the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Browns… and a fan of any team playing Michigan in any sport.
Jim lifted weights at Torio’s Health club, loved to walk and jog at Wildwood Metropark, and was a fan of FOX News. Those who knew him will remember Jim as being passionate, well-read, extremely loyal, a faithful Roman Catholic and loving husband, father and grandfather
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Mary Jane. Left behind to mourn his passing are his children, Lisa (Dan) Wilczynski, James Antoine, and grandson, Danny Wilczynski.
