Pat was court stenographer, and then became a legal secretary. She was also secretary to the Superior Court Judges before her retirement. Pat held various positions in the Dilworth P.T.A., the Foxcrafters Garden Club, the Charlotte Architects Auxiliary, the Oratorio Singers and the Community Concert Association. She volunteered with the Mint Museum and Charlotte Symphony Guild.
Pat and her husband were longtime members of Myers Park Country Club, where they both enjoyed playing tennis. In 2005, they moved to the Aldersgate Retirement Community where they made good friends.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and her son, Jimmy Hemphill. She is survived by her son, Jack Hemphill and his wife, Barbara; three dear grandchildren, Ashley Hemphill Bird (Kevin), Robert Reid Hemphill, and Nathan Taylor Hemphill.
