James “Jimmy” N. Herod, 69, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Life Care Center, in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

Memorial graveside services were held 11 AM, Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Ocilla Cemetery, with the Rev. William Pope officiating.

Mr. Herod was born December 30, 1947, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late James Paul “Jack” Herod & Martha Hudson Herod. Mr. Herod graduated from Irwin County High School in 1967. He was a former lumber grader at Gilman Building Products in Fitzgerald. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, receiving numerous medals and awards: Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Combat Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Two Bronze Stars and One Purple Heart. Mr. Herod was a member of Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by a son, James Steven Herod and his wife Wendy of Fitzgerald and a daughter, Dana Luckie and her husband Trey of Fitzgerald; five grandchildren and two sisters: Patricia Lupo and Nelda Vigneri, both of Ocilla
