A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 20, 2017 at 1:00 pm at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette for Blaine E. Bittner, 83, who passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

Visitation will be observed on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 9:00 am until the time of service at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.

Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.

Father Gilbert Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate.

Blaine was born November 19, 1933 in Indian Head, PA and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. A proud veteran, he served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Blaine worked as a Supervisor of Flight Records for Petroleum Helicopters for 40 years. He was a parishioner of St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Blaine was active in his community and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid pickleball player and enjoyed working as a mechanic in his spare time. Most of all, Blaine loved spending time with his family and friends.

Blaine is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley Anne Bower Bittner of Lafayette; his daughter, Dawn B. Deville and her husband, L. Chris Deville of Ville Platte; two sons, Timothy W. Bittner and David E. Bittner, both of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Kristina Guedry and her husband, Christopher, Lucas Deville and his wife, Amanda, Jason Deville and his wife, Erin, Alex Bittner and Kaleb Bittner; two great-grandsons, Levi Deville and Baby Boy Guedry on the way and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Belle and Helen Louella Nedrow Bittner and his infant son, Daniel Joseph Bittner.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of the ER and the ICU at Lafayette General Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Blaine and his family.
